How to insert an HEIC photo into Word or PowerPoint reliably
Office and operating-system versions do not all decode HEIC the same way. If a photo is rejected, blank, or missing on another computer, create a JPG copy first, insert that copy, and verify the document on the receiving setup.

The image may not have rendered, may have been linked instead of embedded, or may depend on a codec unavailable to that session.
It works for the author but not the recipient
The author’s device can have HEIC support that the recipient’s older or locked-down computer lacks.
Copy and paste gives an unpredictable result
Clipboard operations can pass a preview, a file reference, or original-format data. A known JPG file is easier to verify and reinsert.
App and codec support

HEIC is not JPEG with a different extension. Word or PowerPoint must have a compatible route for decoding the container and its encoded image before it can render the picture.
Support on one computer does not guarantee support on a colleague’s computer, a web version of Office, a PDF export service, or a managed work device. Converting before insertion removes that HEIC dependency.
The browser-generated JPG is a lossy delivery copy and contains no source EXIF. That is usually appropriate for a document, but the HEIC should remain the archive if metadata or editing latitude matters.

Preserve the original photo
Keep the HEIC in Photos or its source folder. Work from a copy so document preparation does not become the only surviving version.

Decide whether JPG or PNG fits the content
Use JPG for ordinary photographs. Use PNG for screenshots, labels, diagrams, or transparency when file size is acceptable; PNG uses lossless encoding while JPG is lossy.

Convert the HEIC before opening the Insert dialog
Create the chosen output from a supported HEIC no larger than 50 MB. Processing occurs in the browser without a daily cap or cloud upload to this site.

Inspect the standalone output
Open it outside Office and verify crop, orientation, color, fine text, and filename. This isolates conversion from document-layout problems.

Insert the file from the device
In Word or PowerPoint, use the picture insertion command and choose the new JPG or PNG. Prefer embedding rather than linking when the document must travel.

Save, reopen, and test the handoff
Close and reopen the document, then test it on the target Office/web/PDF workflow if possible. A missing converted image now points to embedding or document corruption, not HEIC support.

Can current Word or PowerPoint insert HEIC directly?
Some versions and operating systems can, especially when the needed image support is installed. Because support varies for recipients and export services, JPG is safer for a portable document.
Why is the picture blank only on another computer?
That device may lack the same codec or Office support, or the image may have been linked to a local path. Reinsert a verified JPG as an embedded picture.
Should I use JPG or PNG in Office?
Use JPG for normal photos and smaller documents. Use PNG for text-heavy screenshots, diagrams, or transparency; PNG encoding is lossless but often produces larger photo files.
Does renaming HEIC to JPG make Office accept it?
No. The internal image remains HEIC, so a content-aware decoder can still reject it.
Will conversion keep the photo metadata?
No. This converter re-encodes visible pixels and does not preserve EXIF. Retain the original HEIC if capture date, GPS, or camera fields matter.
